Spurs to lodge complaint over Bogle tackle on Tel

Tottenham will submit a formal complaint to Pro Ref following the decision not to send off Leeds United defender Jayden Bogle for his challenge on Mathys Tel in Spurs' 1-0 defeat at Elland Road.

Bogle caught Tel on his Achilles, which was awarded as a foul, but referee did not punish the incident further as the Leeds defender escaped without even a caution. Tel was unable to continue and was substituted before half-time.

A four-minute VAR review then ensued, but opted against recommending an on-field review, with the challenge only deemed "reckless" as Tel was forced off injured as a result.

Ex-Premier League referee believed Bogle's tackle was "100 per cent a red", adding: "He has caught him right down the back of the Achilles. It is not a good tackle at all. I would be astounded if John Brooks is not sent to the screen."

The first-half incident comes just a week after Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta was sent off for a similar challenge in Spurs' win over the Eagles.

Asked if he would have liked the referee to go to the pitchside monitor, Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi said: "No, I have big confidence in the referee. Nothing changes if he goes to watch the clip or not.

"There was the VAR, and if they didn't take the right decision, I don't know, but we have confidence.

"We have to keep our eyes on the performance where we can improve."

He added in his post-match press conference: "I don't know if it was a red card or not on Mathys Tel, but for sure Pedro Porro yellow card [for his second-half challenge on Nmecha].

"And why I'm telling like this is because the parameter of the referee was not good enough, I think, for both these situations."
